The MEMKEY is a stand-alone (no additional components required) keypad encoder. It can be used to convert keypad presses to serial data or to the PC/AT protocol used by PCs. The MEMKEY is highly configurable with programmable key values, debounce, typematic rate, row and column location.

In serial mode (TTL level, 2400BPS, 8N1) key presses can be reported in automatic or polled modes. Additionally, 64 bytes of EEPROM are made available to the master unit through the serial interface. In PC/AT mode (selected by removing a hardware jumper) allows keypresses to be ports directly to a PCs keyboard port.

The MEMKEY Programming Kit (MEMKIT) is also available to program the MEMKEY in serial mode for applications where PC/AT mode will not make use of the MEMKEY default settings.
